Woodwynne Farms is to be shuttered and sold.
In a statement issued Thursday, the society that operates the Central Saanich farm that cultivated a unique live-work program to help the homeless, saying financial backers have withdrawn their support after the Agricultural Land Commission denied its request to build additional housing for up to 40 people.
The Mayor of Central Saanich Ryan Windsor, says the main concern at the moment is for those still living on the farm.
"They have assured us that those individuals will find a safe and stable environment as to not jeopardize the progress they've made to date,' Windsor says.
Fire destroyed a camper on the farm last fall.
Organizers say “NO OCCUPANCY” orders were posted by municipal officials on Woodwynn Farms’ Treatment Centre housing units in mid-December.
The farm was already offering a grassroots treatment program for up to eight homeless people, or those recovering from drug addictions.
