The Westshore Rebels are the 2016 Cullen Cup Champions.
The Rebels defeated the Okanagan Sun 31-21 at Westhills Stadium on Saturday night to win the B.C. Football Conference.
It’s quite the feat for a Rebels team that finished just 2-8 last season.
Rebels’ quarterback Ashton McKinnon was named offensive player of the game thanks to a three touchdown day to go with 173 passing yards and around 90 yards rushing.
“It was our goal at the beginning of the year,” said McKinnon, “Now that we have achieved it, we got to out and win one more”
The Rebels will now host their first Canadian Bowl on Saturday November 12 with kickoff at 1pm against the Prairie Football Conference Champions, the Saskatoon Hilltops after they defeated the Calgary Colts 43-31 in Saskatoon on Sunday. It’ll be a rematch of 2003 Canadian Bowl where the Rebels got pummeled 59-0.
