RCMP on the West Shore are investigating a violent sexual assault in Colwood last night.
Police were called about 10:40 p.m. about a stranger who had beaten and sexually assaulted a 32 year old woman who had been out jogging on the Galloping Goose trail near Pickford Rd.
RCMP and a dog handler responded quickly but were unable to locate the suspect.
Cst. Alex Bérubé says the woman was treated at the scene by BC Ambulance and taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening her injuries. But, recognizing these incidents are very traumatizing the victim and her family are being provided additional support from the Greater Victoria Victim Services.
Police remind the public to be aware of their surroundings if using trails, especially if out of the public’s view, and to report any incidents right away.
