The Victoria Shamrocks announce that team captain Corey Small will not be returning to the club in 2018 as he has decided to move back to Ontario in order to be closer to his family."
Small says it's with mixed emotions he says goodbye tot he cxity that's been his home for the past 7 years -- saying he'll be forever grateful to ther Sharocks and the fans. He says it's a tough deciison but he needs to be closer to family.
In his 7 years with the Western Lacrosse Association club Small was a 4-time WLA first team all-star and a 2-time league scoring champion. He was a 4-time recipient of both the Shamrocks team MVP award and the team's most popular player award as voted by the fans. He played a total of 190 regular season and playoff games, scoring 383 goals and adding 447 assists for 830 points, over 4 per game.
The defining moment of his Shamrocks career came in 2015 when he helped lead them to the Mann Cup championship and was named the winner of the Mike Kelley award as the most valuable player in the Mann Cup series.
General manager Chris Welch says it's the end of an era.
