Victoria Police have a man in custody after a daring break and enter.
It happened Monday night in the 3100 block of Glasgow Street just after 9 p.m. A woman discovered her home had been broken into while she was at home babysitting a young relative. Her purse, several pieces of identification, bank and credit cards, car keys and her vehicle were all missing.
When officers arrived they found her purse and some other items nearby, and then began a search for her vehicle. A city-wide notice went out and it was spotted during a vehicle stop in a parking lot in the 400 block of Gorge Road East. The officer recognized the suspect from previous contact and ordered him to show his hands, knowing he had carried weapons in the past. The suspect refused and suddenly fled the vehicle with something in his hands. Concerned it may have been a weapon, the officer discharged PSD Diesel of the K9 team, who took the suspect to the ground. The suspect struggled with the dog and was finally taken into custody. Some of the stolen items were recovered.
Police are recommending charges of breaking and entering, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, obstruction and failure to comply.
