Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps is floating the idea of banning the sale of pellet guns in the city.
She made the suggestion during an appearance on CFAX 1070 when asked about an incident last Wednesday at City Hall in which a window was damaged by a pellet fired from a pellet gun.
Victoria Police have also said there has been a major spike in crimes involving airsoft or replica guns, as well as pellet guns.
Helps says it's illegal, and the people shooting such guns should be arrested for violent activity:
"There's no room for violence in our city, there's no room for pellet guns in our city. You know, one of the things that other jurisdictions have done -- and boy we've got a lot on our plate right now so I don't know this is a direction that we'll turn, but -- is simply banning the sale of those in the city. I mean people can get weapons in lots of places I guess, but some cities have turned to banning the sale of those kinds of things."
It's not the first time a window in the vicinity of City Hall has been damaged by a suspected pellet gun.
About 3 weeks ago, 2 days in a row, someone targeted a window across the street at CTV Vancouver Island. Thankfully no one was injured
