Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps has returned to Victoria after leading a 19-member joint trade mission to China for 8 days.
One of the things Helps did was check out the progress of the Johnson Street bridge. She says the bridge is so large crews are doing a trial assembly of the components.
" What they're doing now is the trial assembly. So they're putting all the pieces together and making sure everything works before it's shipped over. So it's taking more time than we'd anticipated there, but it will same time here. And also from our perspective we know it will work before it leaves"
Helps says a new paint facility has also been built in China just for the Johnson Street bridge.
Helps expects the components will likely be ready to ship in March or April, and will arrive here 6 to 8 weeks later.
Helps estimates completion will be sometime next fall - December at the latest.
