A Victoria man has been rescued after spending since Christmas day in his car in a remote area in the Comox Valley.
Ground Search and Rescue say they were notified of a beacon had been trans ponding from a remote logging road in the Strathcona Park.
While ground crews couldn’t get to him, a helicopter in the area was able to spot the man and get him to safety late on Tuesday afternoon.
“He had been traveled in on Christmas day, attempting a fairly ambitious hike,” said Paul Berry with Comox Valley SAR. “Weather and snow conditions didn’t allow him to do that and he ended up with his truck high centered in some pretty deep snow and he had no communications.”
Rescuers say the man was very prepared and experienced but likely misjudged the amount of snow.
