One of Canada's oldest surviving World War 2 veterans, who lives right here in Victoria, is turning 109 today.
Albert Middleton was born in 1915 in London, England, and now lives at Victoria's Veterans Memorial Lodge.
"He's going to be having a big band, a big party with other residents, and it's going to be a special day," says Executive Director Janet Power.
Power says he's shared some tips for living a long life, "the one thing he would say is enjoy music, coffee, and candy. And always like a little drop of whisky."
As a young teen, he was sent to Canada as a war orphan. In 1943 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas during the Second World War.
