Gas Prices are on the rise -- and it's not just a little jump. CFAX callers reported the first 2 gas stations to up their prices to 142.9 (from 131.9) were the Chevron and Petro Canada at Shelbourne and Hillside.
And Dan McTeaguec -- GasBuddy.com's Senior Petroleum Analyst -- says Canada is very reliant on the U.S. for our gasoline, and right now 2 major refineries are closed for maintenance:
"With the announcement of 2 refineries in the U.S. going into maintenance in preparation for spring turnaround, the price for gasoline on the spot markets, the wholsesale price markets, jumped about 22, 23 cents a gallon since last Thursday. And that's what's really been driving prices up, and it's really what's behind these prices rising as dramatically as they are today."
McTeague says one of the refineries has been down for longer than anyone anticipated, and he doesn't expect the high prices coming down anytime soon.
