The Victoria Fire Department responded to a fire at Government House on Rockland Ave. late Saturday evening.
Upon arrival fire fighter’s encountered smoke on the second and third floors, discovering an overheated elevator motor atop the elevator car.
Electricity was shut off to the elevator and CO2 extinguishers were used to contain the fire.
Vic Fire Department then used electric high-volume fans to pressurize the large building and force the remaining smoke through a roof access hatch.
Damage was confined to the third floor hoist away doors and the elevator motor, with an estimated cost of $5,000. The probable cause of the fire was blamed on aging electrical equipment.
