Final decision to be made June 13, and if approved it will cover several events

Victoria's Committee of the Whole has voted 8 to 1 to allocate up to $135-thousand from the contingency fund to cover policing expenses for events -- pending final approval at the June 13th meeting.

The Finance Committee says the average cost of policing the downtown core during the massive celebration is 122-thousand dollars, and while Victoria and Esquimalt contribute to this fund, this year 78-thousand dollars of this is being left to the Police.

If approved the funds will cover Canada Day, non-profit run community events, and military events.

Council also wants an outline on how to reduce overtime costs in the future.
