Victoria Police are warning the public after a used, uncapped needle was found tied to a railing in Beacon Hill Park Sunday.
Just before 5 p.m. officers on special duty assignment in Beacon Hill Park discovered the hypodermic needle secured to the handrail of a staircase near a heavily used path.
It was found in the West side of the park, near Douglas and Toronto streets.
There was a small amount of blood in the needle, and officers believe it was placed with the intent to cause injury.
Thankfully the needle was safely disposed of by officers.
VicPD deployed extra officers to Beacon Hill Park and the Burnside-Gorge neighborhood to increase police visibility in those areas following concerns of residents and businesses dealing with increased incidents of disorder and crime in the vicinity of tent encampments and so-called "homeless hotels."
They plan to continue the added presence for the month of August.
