A 1.4 metre, or 4.5 foot ball python that escaped near the Galloping Goose trail July 2nd, has been recaptured by Victoria police the 1100 block Richardson Street

VicPd have an escaped snake in custody!

The 4.5 foot long python disappeared on July 2nd off Bay Street near the Galloping Goose trail, but wasn't reported missing by its owner until August 4th -- more than a month later.

Ball pythons aren't venomous but they can bite.

Just before 6 last night (Wed) residents in the 1100 block of Richardson St. spotted the snake and called police.

VicPd had a little fun announcing the capture on Twitter -- saying the snake took refuge under a vehicle, and as crisis negotiators don't speak 'parseltongue' an officer familiar with snakes approached the vehicle and took the  #baystreetsnake into custody without incident.

The python was checked by a vet and appeared healthy. Case clossssssssssssed.
