Victoria Police is searching for a man who injured a police officer while fleeing from the parking lot where he was sleeping.
Just after 2 o'clock on the afternoon of Sunday, September 8th, officers responded to a call of an impaired driver in the 3100 block of Douglas Street. The man was passed out in a Ford Focus in a parking lot of a local business.
Officers arrived on the scene and woke up the driver, who then tried to flee, reversing into the police cruiser. An officer came into contact with the vehicle during the incident, resulting in non-life threatening injuries that forced the officer to leave her shift early. She's not been able to return to work yet.
Victoria Police officers searched for the vehicle, but were unable to locate it or the driver.
The car is expected to have significant damage, and Vic PD suspects the driver would have told someone of the incident. Vic PD asks anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or knows who the suspect is, to contact them at 250-995-7654, or report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
