The snow pack in the mountains of Vancouver Island has improved after our latest blast of winter weather, but it still remains below normal levels.
"A lot of that has been down to the snow accumulation over the past week," says Dave Campbell, head of the River Forecast Centre.
He says as of March 1st we hit 46% of normal values, which is up from 30%.
"The overall trend of low snow pack this year has really been driven by the warm earlier season tempratures. In particular in Janaualy where we did experience that incredibly warm atmospheric river event, it melted a lot of the snow. We actually lost a lot of snow pack across Vancouver Island," says Campbell.
Province wide, B.C. is at a near record low snow pack. It means there are concerns about drought risk later in the year, as there won't be enough snow melt to feed streams and rivers.
