While the Island Corridor Foundation gathers support for its new proposal to revive rail from Nanaimo to Victoria, another local group is gathering signatures for the idea of a multi-use approach to the old railway line running from Langford to Courtenay.
Denise Savoie with Friends of Rails to Trails Vancouver Island says it makes more sense for the corridor to be used for other transportation purposes like buses or trail use until a time when rail service becomes more financially viable.
"The best use that we feel would lend itself to economic development to tourism, to healthier transportation is to a multi-use trail."
The Island Corridor Foundation which owns the 220-kilometre rail line, is pushing to have train service brought back.
