Three Earthquakes have hit just off the Coast of Port Alice.

The first was a 5.4 Magnitude quake that hit at 8:20am this morning, followed by a 4.8 aftershock then another 4.2.

The quakes were roughly 180km South West of Port Alice, neither generating a tsunami warning.

According to the US Geological Survey the quakes were at a shallow depth of 10km, and they said if these were over land there would have been substantial damage.

This is the latest in a string of earthquakes that have struck off the West Coast of Vancouver Island, on October 21 & 22 there was a series of magnitude 6+ quakes.
