High winds continue to interfere with BC Ferry sailings today.
Not one single ferry has been able to sail today on the 3 major routes from southern Vancouver island to the mainland -- with 13 routes in total affected. That includes the Brentwood-Mill Bay Ferry.
Spokesperson Deborah Marshall says assessment of conditions is constant, but until things calm down sailings cannot resume.
Still, hope reigns supreme with some passengers:
" There are some customers out at the terminals though who are choosing to wait and to see what happens. We are alerting our customers that at least through 6 pm sailings are suspended between the 3 major routes. We will update in a couple of hours to see if we are able to get going at all, but we don't know that at this point. "
Passengers who spoke to CTV Vancouver Island d seemed to be taking it in stride, saying they'd rather be safe. Some say they are trying to get to the mainland to catch a flight, get to the Canucks game, or start long drives to visit family over Christmas.
Environment Canada's website says this morning's southeast winds were expected to shift to strong southwesterly winds in the Juan de Fuca Strait this afternoon, with those winds predicted to last into the evening.
But winds are expected to ease overnight.
Marshall expects Friday's sailings to be especially busy as a result of the lost sailings today. Extra sailings had already been added prior to the windstorm, but reservations are already sold out for Friday.
Marshall advises ferry customers to check with BCFerries.com before heading out to the terminal, follow Twitter, or call 1-888-BCFerry for the latest information.
