The highway reopened in both directions around 345pm, after a late morning two vehicle crash
The Malahat reopened in both directions at approximately 3:45 Tuesday afternoon after being closed for nearly 4 hours.
Two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the crash near the Split Rock Lookout. For several hours drivers had to work their ways around Shawnigan Lake Road to try and get around.
It appears a black minivan crossed the centre line and collided with a large truck, which then slammed into a rock wall. Damage to the minivan was extensive and rescue crews needed to cut into the vehicle to get the driver out. The driver was the lone occupant of the minivan.
