The BC Coroners Service and Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are investigating after a 35 year old man was found dead in Victoria on Saturday.
A witness called CFAX early Saturday morning, saying they saw police give CPR to someone laying on the ground at 5:20am.
Victoria Police later confirmed they were investigating a "serious incident" at Hillside and Belmont Ave.
K-9 units searched the area and officers canvassed the neighbourhood. People were asked to stay away to allow the investigation to be completed.
Later, Vic-PD Tweeted that the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit had been called to assist.
The coroner has confirmed they're investigating a man's death but authorities have said little else at this point. The victim has not been officially identified but two separate 'Go Fund Me' pages were set up for a man named Joe Gauthier. They've currently raised over $4,200.
One page says:
"Today so many lost a great soul, but sadly 4 boys lost their father. Please respect the family's privacy at this time. If you prefer etransfer pls private msg me for the appropriate contact info. The family appreciates all the love and support during this very difficult time."
