West Shore RCMP say there was not a mobile drug lab involved in a Colwood crash during the afternoon commute yesterday.
Instead, the crash involved a vehicle stolen from the Comox Valley and two men who appeared to be high on something. RCMP say a small red car rear ended another vehicle while approaching the four lane portion of Sooke Rd in Langford. The car continued at a high rate of speed and, apparently, hit several over vehicles before stopping.
Two people then jumped out of the car and ran.
Speculation about a mobile drug lab started after a HazMat team was called to the scene. The Mounties say it was a precautionary measure after officers saw something in the car that concerned them but in the end nothing harmful was found.
As for the two people who fled from the stolen car – a 40 year old man from Courtenay and a 28 year old man of no fixed address were taken to hospital to be treated, as they appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and then arrested.
The whole incident tied up traffic from about 3:30pm and lasted approximately3 hours.
