You may have seen some of the green coloured bikes being ridden around the downtown core Monday.
It was the launch of U-Bicycle's bike sharing program in Western Canada, Victoria being one of the cities to introduce the new form of transport.
The program uses self-locking, smart technology unlike other traditional bike sharing services. It requires no fixed bicycle racks, and users can park the bike anywhere that is legal and responsible. The latest version of the Ubicycle mobile app allows riders to locate and return the bike at their convenience.
The cost to use the service is $1-dollar for a 30-minute block and there is no annual membership fee.
