The closure of the Bay Street Bridge has caused some trouble for commuters, especially those who rely on busses.
Eastbound traffic isn't flowing across the bridge from Vic West and Esquimalt into Victoria, and busses have been rerouted to accommodate the closure.
David Guthrie, General Manager of Victoria Operations for BC Transit, says people are creatures of habit, and tend to get into a routine, but most transit-takers could find alternate routes to make their way into town.
"We may not fully realize that there's alternatives around, not in every situation, and I recognize that there are some situations that we just have to be patient, there really isn't an alternative. But we do want to provide people as much advantage as we can to get through."
He adds that BC Transit and the City of Victoria are working together to make the ride as convenient and quick as possible.
"Anytime that we come up with a concept or an idea that can help our passengers, we would like to do that. And they're very open for us in that, but again, we are restricted due to the corridors that we have. And the construction crews have been good with us as well. When they see us, they try to get us through as quickly as they can."
Construction on the bridge, which Guthrie says is necessary work, is expected to last through October. Guthrie asks that riders be patient with the drivers and the extra time their daily commutes will take, though if there are any pressing concerns, people can call the BC Transit customer service line at 250-382-6161.
