The Trans Canada Hwy southbound at Helmcken is completely clear after repairs to fix a broken water main was completed.
The Ministry of Transportation announced the re-opening of all lanes at around 2:00 this morning (Sat).
Ted Robbins GM for the CRD Integrated Water Services says his crews have been working for 24 hours straight to get the job done.
“Crews have worked hard starting at midnight (last night),” said Robbins. “We know that this repair has had a huge impact on traffic and drivers trying to head into Greater Victoria and we really appreciate the patience and co-operation as for the most part everyone has been very understanding.”
A steel pipe underneath the highway southbound near the Colwood off-ramp cracked around midnight, causing water to flow out onto the highway for over ten hours before crews could get the flow under control.
The highway was down to one lane for most of Friday, snarling traffic to the Westshore.
B.C. Transit reports that all routes are back to normal as well after there were disruptions in it's service.
