The Saanich Animal Pound is using technology in the hopes of locating an exotic snake reported slithering around a neighbourhood since Christmas.
The reptile has been described by a resident in the 32-hundred block of Linwood Avenue as pale yellow in colour, and large -- although an estimated size has not been provided.
Saanich police Sgt. Julie Fast says pound staff have set up trail cameras:
" They have installed some trail cameras in the area hoping to, you know, capture a picture of it to confirm that it is out there, and also to confirm maybe what kind of snake it is. The trail cams are motion activated, and they're specifically really for the night time hours. So each day they are being checked."
So far only domestic pets and other creatures you would expect to see have shown up on the camera. No snake.
Anyone who sees the serpent is asked to call police, and try to keep an eye on it until officers get there.
