Sitting in between traffic lights idling seems to defeat the purpose of green transportation.
The City of Victoria will try to improve that by is assessing the traffic light timing in the downtown core.
Some of the benefits to tweaking the traffic lights can include more efficient fuel use and lower emissions on downtown roads.
Brad Delleburr, assistant director, Transportation, City of Victoria says the signal assessments are underway now.
"We've been collecting data at all of our signalized intersections downtown--pedestrian volumes as well as vehicle and cyclist volumes--we will in the new year, kick off doing the evaluation and come up with new signal timing plans for the entire downtown core."
Drivers have been complaining about poorly timed traffic lights through the downtown core, while the City cites changes in traffic patterns, volume and congestion due to construction for the growing traffic issues downtown.
