There are now three confirmed cases of measles in the Victoria area.
Island Health confirmed the latest case Thursday morning. They aren't yet saying much about the person involved, but they are warning of a couple places and times where the public might have been exposed.
The two locations are both on West Saanich Road in Brentwood Bay: the Beacon Community Services Thrift Store and the Fairway Market. The time in question was Saturday March 30th between noon and 3pm.
The Health Authority is asking that anyone who is unvaccinated and was at either of those locations at those times should contact the Saanich Health Unit.
"People who may have been exposed to measles to monitor for symptoms for 21 days after the exposure date. Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, diarrhea and red eyes, followed a few days later by a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the chest," Island Health said.
Extra clinics have been put on recently to get people caught up on vaccinations, in light B.C.'s recent spike in measles cases. Island Health says, in the past 5 weeks, they have administered a total of 3474 measles vaccinations. It's more than double the previous year.
Last week Island Health confirmed the Victoria area's first two cases of measles, but they say this third case seems unrelated.
