Last Thursday's windstorm played havoc with the Raptors conservation centre in the Cowichan Valley.
General Manager Robyn Radcliffe says thankfully no birds were harmed, but 2 aviaries were badly damaged:
" There was a lot of damage to our facility, primarily a couple of aviaries. We had a really big tree fall on our owl block where a few of our owls live. So in addition to our working birds we also have some nonreleasable injured birds that need a permanent home. So some of them live in this owl block, and this tree came down right on top."
About 20 trees blew down hitting the aviaries and fences, and requiring a massive clean up effort.
A GoFundMe campaign was started Sunday to help pay for the work and materials. As of this (Thurs) morning just over $5-thousand had been raised.
