The most popular names for babies born in B.C. are out. Liam tops the names for boys and Olivia is the #1 choice for girls.
Olivia has been the most popular girls' name in this province for 6 out of 7 years. That is followed by Emma, Amelia, Charlotte, Chloe, Ava, Sophia, Isla, Emily and Hannah. Isla is a new addition to the list.
Liam overtakes Benjamin as the top name of the year for boys, followed by Lucas, Oliver, Benjamin, Ethan, Noah, Logan, William, James and Leo -- Leo is a new addition to this year's list.
Vital Statistics has released preliminary birth numbers for 2018 -- that is the babies born between January 1st and December 18th. Up until then 40,565 babies had been born in this province; of those, 19,821 were girls and 20,744 were boys.
There were over 4,000 more babies born in 2017 (44,694 ) just under 2,000 more girls ( 21,727) an d just over 2,000 more boys (22,967 boys).
