The woman convicted in a brutal teen killing in Victoria years ago is seeking partial freedom from prison on Wednesday.
Kelly Ellard is serving a life sentence for assaulting and drowning 14-year-old Reena Virk near the Craigflower Bridge in 1997.
Ellard now 34 and a mother, is asking for "temporary escorted absences."
Lawyer Michael Mulligan says the parole process is progressive.
“And the parole is expert at managing a person’s release back into the company to ensure that the person is successful and to ensure that the public is safe.”
Ellard, who will be eligible for day parole in May, was denied day parole last May.
She was 15-years-old when she murdered Virk.
