After 8 years, organizers of the Tall Tree Music Festival in Port Renfrew have announced they are taking a one year break to regroup.
Co-Founder and festival Director Mike Hann says festivals across B.C. have been facing challenges such as a low Canadian dollar and market over-saturation. He says that's added to the already tough financial climate. But Hann says the intention is to bring it back:
"My head is being held really high today. And there's been a huge out pouring of love and admiration for the the festival and the event, and the community that surrounds it. We made the decision because it's the right thing to do, it's the most responsible way forward so that we can re-group and come back stronger."
The festival is heavily dependent on volunteers, and despite that Hann says the event hasn't turned a profit in its 8 year run.
This year the Pemberton festival cancelled after filing for bankruptcy, and Rock The Shores cancelled citing issues with booking acts and competing with Canada 150 celebrations.
