A forgotten package that spent the night on an airplane caused some alarm and delays at the Comox airport today (Friday).
The package was deemed supicious when it was discovered on the Air Canada aircraft around 6 a.m. triggering calls to RCMP and military police..
50 passengers that were scheduled to fly to Vancouver were delayed for 3 1/2 hours while the investigation was underway -- including the deployment of an ordinance robot.
As all this was underway a woman called the airport to report she'd left her bag on the plane the night before. It was confirmed the package did in fact belong to the caller.
Airport CEO Fred Bigelow says he's thankful it was a false alarm, adding the package would normally have been discovered the night before by the cleaning crew.
Everything got back to normal about mid morning.
