An RCMP investigation that spanned several months has resulted in arrests of suspected drugs traffickers in Sooke.
Sooke RCMP partnered with the Vancouver Island General Investigation Unit to gather information and successfully arrest suspected drug traffickers, seize drugs intended for sale on the streets.
Corporal Chris Manseau says the VIGIU usually work on higher level investigations.
"They're what you would call plain clothes if you saw them on television. So they don't work out of a specific detachment, but work on higher level files that are throughout the South Vancouver Island area."
On May 11th, a 32 year old and a 31 year old male from Sooke were arrested after a search warrant was executed. Both have been released on a promise to appear in court on July 24th.
The 32 year old faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of Trafficking Cocaine and Possession of Cocaine for Trafficking. The 31 year old is facing 2 counts of Trafficking Heroin/Fentanyl and Possession of Heroin/Fentanyl, Methamphetamine and Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking.
A 52 year old male was also arrested on May 23rd, and later released on a promise to appear in Court, he is facing 2 counts of Trafficking Heroin/Fentanyl and one count of Possession of Heroin/Fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
At this time, there is no link connecting the three men, and it's not known if they were rivals, or working together.
During the arrests, RCMP also seized several grams of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and psilocybin (or psychedelic) mushrooms.
This investigation is ongoing and Manseau says further charges and arrests are expected in the future.
