Saanich Police have identified the suspect in an assault in Brydon Park on Tuesday.
Police released photos of the suspect, who is accused of assaulting a man who approached him because of how he was treating his dog.
Witnesses at the scene say they saw the suspect treating the medium-sized dog in an extremely upsetting way, including dragging the dog by the throat, lifting it off the ground, flinging it down and kicking it repeatedly.
Police are thanking everyone in the community who came forward to provide information to assist in identifying the suspect.
As charges have not officially been sworn in the courts no further information about the suspect will be released at this time.
Meantime a young girl who witnessed the incident wrote a thank you note to the man who intervened, and delivered it to him along with a gift.
The letter was shared on Facebook.
