Greater Victoria residents are waking up to branches and other debris littering streets and, for many, power outages.
The first of the fall storms hit last night and continued this morning, packing winds that were 90 km/h at their strongest. Trees came down in many locations, such as the picture above of a tree down near a Quadra Street business last night.
Falling trees and branches brought down power lines.
Hydro crews have been kept busy with outages all across the BC South coast. In the Victoria area, the West Shore was hit hardest earlier in the morning. As Hydro crews started to get a handle on that situation more large outages happened in the Gordon Head and Cordova Bay areas of Saanich.
Those are just a few examples of the many ongoing outages at the time this report was posted. Check https://www.bchydro.com/power-outages for specific information.
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority has confirmed that a cruise ship failed its first attempt to dock at Ogden Point due to high winds.
The "Explorer of the Seas" was due to dock in Victoria Friday morning. The Harbour Authority told CTV Vancouver Island that the 311 meter cruise ship distanced itself from shore and will attempt to re-dock once winds and seas have subsided.
