A furry little animal was the culprit in a break and enter in Oak Bay.
A couple returning from a five week vacation were shocked to find their house trashed so they called police.
“We figured out that this wasn’t your normal B&E,” explained Oak Bay Cst. Sheri Lucas. “Doors weren’t opened; some of the valuables that we could see were still there and then we noticed there was a pile of nuts on the floor and we noticed teeth marks in some chocolate that was on the counter.”
They then finally found a little squirrel that was in a panic to get out. The point of entry wasn’t determined but police believe vents could have been used.
“We aren’t sure why there was so much damage” Cst. Lucas said. “Maybe the chocolate gave it a high it didn’t expect?”
Oak Bay Police are using the case as a reason to remind people of a service they offer. When a homeowner goes away, they can let the department know and they will check on the house once in awhile.
