A 30-year-old Sooke man is facing several charges after a standoff with the RCMP last night that involved a sawed-off shotgun and tear gas.
Mounties were called around 10:15 to a small farm property in the 2100-block of Church Road because a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun had threatened to kill another man and burn the house down.
RCMP say the man, who is well-known to them, was uncooperative and holed up in an out-building.
The Emergency Response Team was called in and tear gas was used inside the building. After four hours the man surrendered. He was uninjured and is scheduled to appear in a Colwood court Wednesday morning. He faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, uttering threats and failing to comply with a probation order
