A live action movie based on the video game will shoot scenes on the highway September 18 and 19
The Island Highway near Bowser will be closed for a couple days later this month for a novel reason.
It's because of Sonic the Hedgehog, a 1980's SEGA video game character who's now getting his own movie. Jim Carrey stars as the villain Dr. Robotnik.
A stretch of Highway 19, north of Qualicum Beach, will be closed from 6am-9pm between September 10 and 14. They'll be shooting a pick-up truck chase and during those days the Highways ministry suggests using the Old Island Highway as a detour.
The movie has already been in production in Vancouver and is slated for release in November 2019.
