Many in the capital region are dealing with a slushy mess after last week’s snowfall as the big melt begins.
A brief break from flurries combined with a gradual rise in temperatures is turning snow to a slushy soup, which is bringing new problems to deal with.
Residents are encouraged to clear any catch basins to allow proper drainage. Ed Robertson, Victoria Engineer at Public Works says, “Local residents will know here their catch basins are, quite often they are located on the corners." His crews have been out clearing remaining snow and ice all weekend and warn to beware some roads and sidewalks are still icy.
Environment Canada says it will be another month before temperatures return to normals for the period. "We're mostly out of the woods, we are really going to see more slush events at this point." -- Armel Castalan of Environment Climate Change Canada.
