The Sandown development in North Saanich has competed major requirements and is moving ahead.
The owners of the Sandown lands have competed the Agricultural Land Commission's requirements to enable the commercial lands to be removed from the ALR and replaced with an equal amount of lands owned by North Saanich.
The subdivision that will enable the separation of the agricultural lands from the commercial lands and the transfer of the agricultural lands to North Saanich has also been approved and submitted for registration in the Land Title Office. The agricultural land improvements and the commercial development are now able to proceed.
83 acres is to be transferred by the owners to the District for use as agricultural land.
12 acres of the site along McDonald Park Road are being developed as a commercial area, the first tenant of which is Canadian Tire.
North Saanich Mayor, Alice Finall says the next steps will include demolition of the derelict buildings and soil drainage improvements on the land.
