RCMP says a 22 year old man they originally arrested in the death of a Salt Spring Island woman was released from custody -- and then apprehended under the Mental Health Act.

Police were called to a duplex on Maliview Drive north of Ganges Wednesday.  Neighbours reported a standoff at the home.  Inside officers found the body of 47 year old Heather Jones, a lifetime resident of the island and owner of a taxi company.

Police says the 22 year old suspect and the victim were known to one another -- but are not confirming if the suspect is the woman's son.

Investigators are trying to piece together the last movements of Jones in the hours and days before her death.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
