Saanich Police have launched their 5 year strategic plan outlining 13 new key priorities to help guide the department as it looks for solutions to complex policing challenges.
Saanich Police Chief Constable Bob Downie says issues like the opioid crisis require an ongoing commitment and collaborative work with community partners. He also says crimes like gender-based violence, online fraud and or harassment require specialized skill sets.
The plan involved consultations with staff and the community with over 18-hundred people offering input in person and online.
Saanich Mayor and Police Board Chair Richard Atwell says the board is confident the plan will help the department navigate financial and operational challenges while remaining effective.
