Saanich Police have called a news conference tomorrow (Friday) to update a 3 year old child abduction case.
In May 2016 Tasha Brown contacted the Saanich Police to report her estranged wife, Lauren Etchells, may have abducted their 19 month old daughter, Kaydance, and had left Canada.
Police confirmed Lauren, a dual Canadian and U.K citizen, had fled Canada and had abducted Kaydance.
Brown and Etchells married in 2013, and decided to have a child through a donor process. After Kaydance was born she received a UK Passport because of Lauren's dual citizenship.
The couple separated in July 2015. Kaydance was living with Lauren as the couple went through custody proceedings. A Provincial Court Judge ordered Lauren to surrender Kaydance's UK passport, that she not apply for a Canadian passport for Kaydance, and should not leave Vancouver Island.
But Lauren disobeyed the court order, lied to Passport Canada and obtained a Canadian Passport for Kaydance in April 2016.
Then, on May 8th Lauren, Kaydance, and her new partner, Marco van der Merwe, as well as their new born child, Marcus, flew from Vancouver to London. A Canada Wide Warrant was issued for the arrest of Lauren Ann Etchells.
At last word Detectives were working closely with Interpol, the RCMP National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and the BC Criminal Justice Branch.
Marco van der Merwe was believed to be in the Netherlands, and investigators were trying to locate him to see if he could provide information on Lauren and Kaydance's whereabouts.
Kaydance would be 5 years old now.
