Saanich Police say a 26-year-old Saanich resident is expected to make a full recovery after rolling his vehicle multiple times on the Pat Bay Highway on Friday night.
Witnesses say a Hyundai Genesis was travelling at a high speed southbound near Royal Oak when it struck the median and rolled over at least six times.
“The initial point of impact was one of the concrete medians but it appears that the centre grass medians prevented the car from going into the oncoming and the accident could have been much worse,” says Saanich Police St/Sgt Chris Horsely.
Horsely says the crash is still under investigation but investigators are looking at alcohol and speed as a factors and criminal charges are being recommended.
“The debris field from the initial point of contact to the final resting spot was nearly a thousand feet long so that gives you an indication on how fast the car was going.”
Vehicle had to have the entire roof cutoff by Saanich fire crews to get the driver out who was unconscious at the time of rescue.
The crash caused the shutdown of the Pat Bay in both directions between 8:00pm and midnight.
