A young Saanich family has been forced from their first home for a second time in less than two years due to mould.
Now they’re turning to an online fundraising site to help shoulder the financial burden of mounting construction and legal bills.
Melissa Kennedy says "Mould was showing up around the house when we had something up against the wall, after a couple weeks you would move that furniture and there would be mould on the wall."
Melissa says she started developing ear infections, Her fiancé Kyle Drover began having headaches and lingering colds. There newborn son Colton had a wheezy cough. Their eldest daughter Dallas had minor colds, but came out relatively unscathed because her bedroom contained the least amount of mould in the home.
The Gordon Head couple say they were denied their insurance claim because the problem originated with the previous owner, and the original home inspection passed.
Kennedy says she has had to reach out to friends and family for support and is left wondering how they will be able to afford to remove all the mould.
