Work crews will be onsite tomorrow on the grounds of the Victoria courthouse to remove contaminated soil and begin the process of turning it into a public space and children's playground.
The grounds were the site of the infamous tent city, and a playground emerged as the most popular choice for the site following discussions with neighbours.
Testing of the soil determined the presence of contaminants, including lead, gasoline, diesel and trace amounts of methamphetamines following the dismantling of the homeless camp.
Transformation of the site is still in the early stages.
The remediation work is expected to wrap up in February.
