The Canadian Red Cross is helping those in the evacuation areas, but the organization needs your help to do it. Kimberley Nemrava, the Canadian Red Cross Vice President for British Columbia & Yukon, says the biggest immediate need is cash.
" You know the best thing to do is financial donations. And the reason is it allows organizations like the Red ross to be quick, and be flexible in how the money is used."
Nemrava says when people are suddenly told to leave their homes with little notice, they do so without all necessities and need financial help to get by:
"Even though the government is able to provide you with emergency social services, suddenly you're paying out of pocket for all those other living expenses. So, it's really tough on people. And so we find that the emergency financial assistance is one way that really helps people when they've been evacuated."
Nemrava says if you would like to help go to Red Cross dot ca, or by calling 1-800-418-1111, or text "fires 45678" which will give a $10 donation from any carrier.
