Nanaimo RCMP is investigating after a 66 year old pedestrian was struck on the Trans-Canada Highway near the entrance to Petroglyph Park. The driver of a Pontiac Wave noticed a man crouched over in the middle of the highway; there was a vehicle in the other lane so he was unable to move over. The driver jumped on the brakes but couldn’t avoid the pedestrian who flew into the windshield and slid off car.
The driver immediately called 911 and assisted the injured 66 year old male from Nanaimo. He was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he is being treated for 2 broken legs as well as back injuries. He remains in hospital.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this accident.
