A 25 year old Canadian tourist is in hospital after falling nearly 10 meters (32 feet) from a cliff near Sombrio Beach.
The incident happened around 5 Wednesday afternoon in the picturesque region between Port Renfrew and Jordan River.
The woman from Quebec City was hiking with her boyfriend on the Juan de Fuca marine trail above the beach -- when she fell onto the rocks below.
Kathryn Farr, Deputy Manager for Juan de Fuca Search & Rescue, says the woman has injuries to her back, ribs, leg and wrist.
"It's a very narrow, treacherous part of the marine trail. Certainly very wet and muddy."
Kathryn Farr says hikers nearby helped to stablize the woman and adminster first aid until rescuers arrived.
The woman was taken to Victoria General by Cormorant helicopter.
She has since been transferred to hospital in Vancouver.
The victim's condition is not known at this time.
